How we Work?

We perform skilled repairs on old and new dolls of all makes and materials, such as celluloid, porcelain, composition, plastic, etc. We are also entrusted with plaster, wood, and ceramic repairs to sacred or other figures.
The correct blending of color once the figure has been reconstructed is often the most difficult and elaborate part of a repair. The colors, particularly the spectrum of skin colors, must be individually mixed for each doll. Of course, we always strive to effect restorations with the original parts. If these can no longer be restored, or if the cost is too high, then we must fall back on our extensive store of replacement parts - but only with your express approval. Often such replacement parts must be colored individually, since they may not match the color of the entire piece perfectly. If the material, particularly celluloid, has been repainted with other layers of color, then this will be reflected in the final color of the piece.

We are especially experienced in the repair of eyes. In this case we work with surgical tools through the small opening on the neck. It is not generally necessary for us to enlarge the opening the neck of the puppet any further. Often we are asked to preserve old and new dolls with ceramic heads. In this case, the site of the repair is virtually invisible. Ceramic materials may be chipped after a break. The mere gluing together of the fragments does not lead to a completely satisfactory repair! In our shop a crack is completed by means of a process of sanding to be completely invisible.

We can repair toy dolls of our "little customers" within a few days in urgent cases. Often these newer playmates have electronic or mechanical functions that we can also repair in most circumstances. Badly worn body parts are completely replaced.

Please note that the costs of repairing a doll may excede the monetary worth of the doll. Nevertheless, the true worth of a doll to puppet lovers big or small may lie in its unique character or history.
